“See, it ain’t so fucking easy, is it?”, especially if that cynic was President Bush and he was talking to all the folks at Va. Tech who are catching shit for their perceived failure to properly secure the campus against a massacre perpetrated by (apparently) a pissed-off, lovesick college kid (I’m not going to dignify him or his acts by using his name).
The gun control nuts are probably going to come out of the woodwork, too, since it is being reported that this kid apparently was able to buy the weapons he used very easily and very quickly, with no waiting period and with an “instant” background check (which somehow apparently missed his well-documented history of mental instability). Of course, they will conveniently ignore the fact that he bought the weapons several weeks before he actually used them, meaning a waiting period would likely have been ineffective in this case.
And we’re already hearing about how the kid “fits the profile” of a school shooter - a creepy, attention-starved loner with an overactive imagination who was obsessed with violence - and if only somebody had reached out to him. Never mind the person who most recently “reached out” to him (his girlfriend) was the first to die.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t look out for each other and reach out to those who appear to be hurting. I’m also not saying we shouldn’t consider reasonable waiting periods and other regulations for handguns and other weapons (I’m actually in favor of waiting periods). And I’m definitely not saying college campuses shouldn’t be concerned about security. What I am saying is that we all need to take a deep breath and realize that some people are just broken, badly wired, and/or evil, if not outright fucking nuts, and there is no predicting when and where those people will come from. So before we start to assign blame for some perceived failure by anyone OTHER THAN this fucking lunatic, let’s be sure the primary blame is squarely laid at this guy’s feet.
I just hope, as he’s sucking off Satan while he’s roasting in hell for all eternity, he has time to read this post. Serves you right, you selfish little pud.
