Hello world!

Filed under: By the Way... — Mike @ 12:15 pm

Recently I took a family vacation to Pennsylvania to visit my brother and his wife. We drove, which gave me a lot of time to think about a lot of stuff. I decided I needed wanted a blog, not just because it’s the technology-du-jour, but because I’ve got too much shit floating around in my head and I figured I should try to get it organized somehow. Also, maybe my ideas are strange or wrong or right or whatever, and it would be nice to have feedback sometimes. And, who knows, somebody might even be interested or inspired, or at least moved to thought in some way, which is a good thing. So this is something of an experiment, on several levels.

First posts are weird because there’s no baseline. I figured I’d just talk about myself for a bit and go from there. At this writing I’m a 30-year-old married father of the smartest almost-two-year-old in the known universe, plus we have a dog. I have a decent education which includes a B.A. (I majored in International Relations and minored in Political Science, History, and Japanese, all of which are largely forgotten and utterly useless to me now) and an M.A. (in economics, which is much more useful) from the University of Alabama, plus a J.D. from Emory University (because I am allergic to money). My day job is that I’m a lawyer, but I dabble in several other things. I do web development as a hobby, and I absolutely love the game of football (the real one, not that soccer bullshit). If you can’t figure out who my favorite team is, well, I’m not sure I can help you.

As far as what to expect from this blog, I intend to write on just about everything that comes to me. That could be a current news item or something historical. Could be political. Could be something technical that intrigues me. Could be something related to my new startup business, PeachForms.com. Could be related to some project I’m working on, from my weight loss goals (today’s weigh-in was 256# for those keeping track, down from 283# on 1/3/07) to my yard (yes, two years and counting with no progress) to my occasional experiments (I once ran my entire practice from a USB thumb drive for three weeks). The only thing you won’t really see would be my personal/relationship issues, whatever they may be, since that’s pretty private stuff and affects more than just me.

Okay, that’s enough for a first post. Comment if you care to, or just read along if you like.
